This month we’re featuring our wonderful Dallas courier, Andrew Castanon. Continue reading to learn more about why he loves his job, the most interesting thing he’s delivered, and the side hobby that has built him a great clientele.
Name: Andrew Castanon
Market: Dallas, TX
Hometown: Dallas, TX born and raised
What does a typical day for you look like: Typically I’ll start out at 8am with some deliveries from Millet the Printer. By lunch I’m doing runs usually from East Hampton and Pei Wei, followed by Sprinkles, Donnelley Financial, and any other orders that may come up. My day winds down downtown with either more print orders or mail runs from Hudson Advisors to Hunton/Williams.
What do you love most about your job: What I love most is the freedom. After working in the administrative field for the past 18 years in a strict, micro-managed office environment, this job is a breath of fresh air. Plus having a super cool General Manager and working for a laid back, easy-going company doesn’t hurt.
What’s the most interesting or unusual thing you’ve delivered: That would have to be the caskets. When they first told me about it, it just seemed so odd and random. I’ve delivered a total of three in the last year, which is totally fine since they are unoccupied!
What is something that most people don’t know about you/interesting fact: I’ve been a part time baker/cake decorator for the past 16 years out of my home. It has always been a favorite hobby of mine and comes second nature to me now that I’ve developed a great clientele over the years. I make cakes for all occasions, big or small. My work is very traditional and classic, nothing like the cake shows you see on TV, and that’s by choice, the simpler the better, I’ve always said.
