Several Retailers Plan to Offer Same Day Delivery

The traditional retail model is changing dramatically as the customer journey evolves and mobile technology influences fulfillment methods. At the same time, we’re seeing brick-and-mortar retailers shut down stores and file for bankruptcy almost weekly. In this day and age, it’s essential for retailers to adapt to the new customer journey and implement innovative methods to retain their customer base.

BRP, an independent retail management consulting firm, recently conducted their 2017 Digital Commerce Survey to better understand current retail challenges and the available opportunities for them as they face the future of the industry.

Key findings from the study include:

  • More than half (51%) of retailers say they now offer same-day delivery, up from 16% last year. That’s a 218% increase.
  • 65% of retailers plan to offer same-day delivery within the next two years.
  • Third-party delivery has also increased, from 20% of retailers offering that last year to 32% this year.

“With Amazon offering same-day delivery in some markets, the push is on for retailers to get items delivered to customers as soon as possible,” BRP vice president Jeffrey Neville said in a statement. And the forecast is for continued innovation in same-day delivery as retailers strive to remain competitive in a landscape that is currently dominated by Amazon.
